This Elderberry Syrup Blend DIY Kit will yield a little over 32 ounces.
Pour 6 cups of spring water into a saucepan and bring to a boil then add contents of the kit into the pan. Cover the pan and reduce heat to the lowest setting and let simmer for about 45 minutes to 1 hour until the liquid has reduced by almost half. Remove from heat and let cool until it is cool. Strain liquid into another pot or bowl using a mesh strainer. Mash the berries carefully using a spoon or other flat utensil. Pour the liquid into a glass jar or bowl. Discard the elderberries and let the liquid cool to lukewarm then add about 1 cup sweetener (syrup/liquid)of your choice (if using a 320z jar or ½ cup if you are using 2 16oz jars) to the sterile jar or glass bottle. Pour the elderberry mixture (fasten the lid and shake to incorporate the sweetener) into the mason jar or glass bottle and store in the fridge for up to four weeks.
FYI-Consistency more like juice than syrup.
Store in a glass bottle or jar in the refrigerator! This homemade elderberry cold and flu syrup will keep for up to 6 months in the fridge.
Dosage:
- Ages 12m-2 yrs: 1-2 tsp daily. When ill: 2-4 tsp twice a day.
- Ages 3 yrs-adult: 1 TB daily. When ill: 2-4 TB twice a day.
